a lasting legacy

30 Nov 1999

People with intellectual disability living in Endeavour Foundation supported accommodation in Mackay, have a sparkling new pool, thanks to a generous gift left by Mr William Bickmore in his Will.

The two accessible homes in Mackay have always shared a pool and outdoor area. It’s long been a unique set-up that has provided highly valued exercise and recreation opportunities. But the pool over the years, it fell into disrepair and became unusable.

Mr Bickmore’s gift changed this, by funding the installation of a new pool and refurbished outdoor area.

Endeavour Foundation Operations Manager (Home), Andrea Dobson said the residents were involved in every step of the renovation process.

“They helped make decisions, right down to choosing the colour and texture of the tiles for the pool.”

Residents wasted no time testing out the upgraded facilities. The new pool is already providing physical and mental health benefits and will continue to do so for years to come.
