Fundraising tips

If you’re new to fundraising it can be difficult to know where and how to start.

We reached out to previous Home Runners seeking their best tips and tricks for hitting their fundraising targets, big and small. Turns out there are more than a few common tactics and strategies these fantastic fundraisers share! Below we’ve outlined their actionable tips.

Take it all in, get out there, and you'll be smashing your own fundraising targets in no time!

The first step?

Make it personal

Set up your personal fundraising page and let people know why you’ve decided to be a Home Run champion and raise money for people with disability.

After that, there are few more things you can try:

Start it

Start off by making a self-donation of $34, showing your commitment and the strength of your cause. As a bonus, you’ll receive an exclusive lanyard! Then, spread the news to at least 3 friends or family members to inspire them to contribute to your fundraising page. If just one person pitches in an additional $50, the total rises to $84 – getting you within reach of your Home Run cap.

Share it

It's time to get social! Capture why you’re doing Home Run in a personal video or better yet, go live on your favourite social platform to really amplify your message and commitment within your social circle. Tag, shout out, or direct message friends, knowing that for every 10 people engaged, one or two will have your back. If two friends contribute $75 each, your total soars to $234 - securing not only your Home Run cap but also earning you a 500ml water bottle!

Work it

Unleash the power of your professional network! Craft an engaging email for colleagues, post vibrant posters in the lunchroom, or engage your division's Teams chat to share your Home Run May mission. Anticipate up to three additional donations, potentially totalling 3 times $50, boosting your tally and earning you the coveted Home Run t-shirt!

Sweeten it

Enough with talk  - it’s action time! Rally your squad and sweeten the deal a little, literally if possible. Team up with supporters to sweeten the deal and cook up some delicious fundraising goodness. Think sausage sizzles, bake sales, or maybe even a meat tray raffle. Leverage the connections you’ve built over the past weeks to spread the word near and far and in turn, drawing in even more generosity. Picture an extra $200 or more pouring in, propelling you toward the goal and securing that stylish hoodie!

Own it

Keep your friends and colleagues in the loop with regular updates on your progress, celebrating every milestone that brings you closer to your fundraising goal. Remember to express genuine gratitude to everyone who lends their support to your cause. Remember, in this journey, every single effort matters and success isn’t just about the money raised  but the lives impacted. Together, we can make a difference!
