What began as a retaining wall project has turned into a powerful community initiative, proving that construction can build more than structures.
As part of the Yarrawonga Drive Retaining Wall Stabilisation Project awarded by Townsville City Council, Shamrock Civil partnered with Endeavour Foundation to raise critical funds for people with disability at the Townsville Lifestyle and Learning Hub on Landsborough Road.
Over the 10‑week project, Shamrock Civil committed to donating $1 for every hour worked, with contractor The RIX Group generously matching each dollar. The team also hosted fortnightly on‑site BBQs, welcoming Endeavour Foundation clients and staff—transforming the worksite into a place of connection, inclusion and shared purpose.
Determined to go even further, Shamrock Civil launched an online auction featuring 10 standout items donated by supplier partners. The result was a collective effort that exceeded expectations.
Thanks to logged hours, online donations and extraordinary generosity, the initiative raised $16,641, surpassing the original $10,000 goal. Those funds enabled the Townsville Lifestyle and Learning Hub to purchase new tables and chairs, casual seating, coffee tables and artwork—refreshing the space and creating a more welcoming environment for participants to learn, connect and thrive.
“This was more than just a retaining wall project — it was a chance to build something meaningful beyond the construction site,” said Nasser Zamara, Senior Project Manager at Shamrock Civil.
To Shamrock Civil, RIX Group, and all who donated: thank you. You didn’t just build a wall — you helped build confidence, connection, and community.
