2021 Simpson Desert Adventure - Days 3 & 4

06 Nov 2020

crossing state lines

Day 3 of our epic drive will see you bound for Tibooburra. Along the way, you will travel on some local station tracks before setting up camp for the night at the local rodeo grounds, with The Family Hotel hosting dinner that night.

What's there to see around here?  Well, the main natural tourist attraction is the granite rock outcrops which erupt immediately beside (and even among) the town streets; there's also Cameron Corner, where the borders  QueenslandSouth Australia, and New South Wales meet (found in nearby Sturt National Park).

This particular over-night stop will be a solid chance for you to let your hair down with the rest of the rally family, with those of you that may fancy yourself as a bit of a singer having the chance to put on a show with karaoke. What will your rally track of the night be? If you can get the whole rally family in on the song, you're sure to be the star of the night - so don't be shy.

The local sporting group will put on breakfast from 6:30 am at the community hall just next to the iconic Family Hotel (home to an artist or two over the years); the first car is set to be out the gate at 8 am.

As we set off for corner country, our lunch stop will be at the Cameron Corner Store. Here, you will have a chance to put yourself to a test of skill, golfing skills in fact - whoever wins in a closest to the pin contest and a couple of other games the locals have cooked up will have bragging rights for the rest of the day.

With that bit of skill and fun done, we'll be heading to our overnight destination, Innamincka, with the Innamincka Hotel hosting us for dinner. This stopover is another stop tied into the explorer spirit of this drive, with it being connected to the long journey of Burke and Wills. From here it is possible to visit the locations of Wills' grave and King's site on Cooper Creek downstream of Innamincka.

History aside, this stop is also where we will have our First Charity Auction. This fun little auction will be great entertainment for everyone and will be your chance to boost your fundraising that little bit more.
