Meet Christine - a Larapinta Trail charity trekker

01 Sep 2020

The countless supporters in #teampossible come from all walks of life, and each does what they can to ensure vulnerable Australians can live their best lives.

Throughout 2020 in particular, we've seen how far everyday people will go to help others - especially within #teampossible. All of you have shown that, whether through walking or fundraising, it's possible to enable people with disability, giving them every chance to aspire for more.

One of the most touching examples of this is Christine, a fundraiser and hiking team member for the 2022 Larapinta Adventure

Christine put her hand up to trek the Larapinta Trail in 2020 to raise funds and awareness for people with disability, and hasn'et let lockdown slow her efforts. She is powering ahead, racking up steps and funds ahead of the trek which is now in 2021.

Why is she doing it? She wants to show her 13-year-old granddaughter Breanna, who has an intellectual disability, that she can have goals for herself – bigger and bolder ones that she can achieve day after day.

Christine also wants to show to Breanna and others like her that everything is possible and that you just have to give it a go.

She believes this so much, that she is currently doing 11,000 steps and a 30 min gym session every day to be ready for Larapinta. Think about it, with her having started her training in 2019, she will hit nearly 6,000,000 steps by the time she gets to the start of the Larapinta Trail. In fact, she's worn out at least one pair of shoes with this mammoth effort!

This physical feat has been more than matched by her incredible fundraising effort - on her own, doing it all her own way, Christine has raised more than $5,000 for people with intellectual disability.

But, with her love of her granddaughter and her passionate beliefs, we’re not surprised. In her own words, “Possible means no limits. Anything can be achieved with the right help”.

Inspired? If you would like to follow in Christine's footsteps and even hike alongside her, there's still time.

Sign on up to the 2021 Larapinta Adventure today to help redefine possible for vulnerable Australians, one kilometre at a time.
