2021 Simpson Desert Adventure - Days 1 & 2

27 Oct 2020

the (un)official start of the 2021 simpson desert adventure

The 2021 Great Endeavour Rally starts before we ever hit the road proper.

The first port of call for all on the road with us for the year is scrutineering at Nindigully Pub (Australia's oldest pub), from 9 am through to 1.30 pm. Here, the core Great Endeavour Rally team will have a good look over your car to check that it is fully rally ready before kitting you out with the all-important RallySafe Unit

Weir at St George during our first trial run.

Once they're happy with your car and have that final piece of on-road safety gear installed, they will give you the Road Book - your bible for the next 10 days, as you travel through some of the most remote areas of Australia. Here you will find all the information you need to make the most of your journey, and how to handle the ditches, bogs, and more that have been noted on different legs.

That night we will regroup at the St George Cultural Centre for our driver briefing and Welcome Dinner. This is your chance to meet your rally-tives (pardon the pun) for the next 10 days and enjoy a meal together. Take the time to get to know the diverse range of loveable larrikins sharing in the adventure with you - they will be friends for life as well as a great help while out on the road.

the actual start of your driving adventure

The first true day of your driving adventure starts with breakfast served by friendly locals from 6:30 am at the local showgrounds -  make sure to eat up, you're going to need the energy.

The first car out the gate will be the highest fundraiser - a coveted position free of dust from any preceding vehicles. Yet another reason (other than the good cause) for participants to smash their fundraising well before the big trip.

Our first stop will be at Cunnamulla, where the local state school will serve up some homegrown hospitality (including lunch) after stage 1. From Cunnamulla, we are
bound for Hungerford, where Graham and his team of local farmers will put on the feast fit for a king or a queen. In other words, Day 1 will be your first real taste of all things great and Aussie, both in terms of experience and food.
